City of Portland Maine issued the following announcement on April 12
The City of Portland is pleased to announce that the U.S Conference of Mayors and its Partner America Program selected Portland to receive the Inaugural 2019 Partner America Small Business Friendly Community Award. According to the US Conference of Mayors, Portland has demonstrated its commitment and support of small business by creating a business friendly environment for businesses to grow and prosper. Our efforts have helped many new entrepreneurs fulfill their dreams and start a business and has helped many existing businesses stay and expand in Portland.
Partner America™ is a public-private partnership that was created by The United States Conference of Mayors and American Management Services, Inc (AMS). This program helps small and medium-sized businesses in cities across the nation improve profits and sales through management assistance. Partner America™ is designed to assist Mayors in providing the resources and information small businesses need to thrive within their local communities and global economy.
“Mayors know that small business is the backbone of the local economy” stated Tom Cochran, CEO and Executive Director of the United States Conference of Mayors. “I applaud Mayor Strimling and City staff for all their efforts to help Portland’s small businesses be successful.”
On behalf of the Partner America Program, Jack Leonardi, Regional Manager congratulates the City of Portland and its officials for helping make Portland a business friendly city that understands the needs and challenges of small business owners today.
A brief presentation and press conference was held Thursday, April 11 at City Hall with Mayor Ethan Strimling, City Councilors Spencer Thibodeau and Pious Ali, reps from the US Conference of Mayors, City Economic Development staff, and small business leaders.
