Census Bureau: More women than men in Portland in 2017


Of the 66,715 people living in Portland in 2017, 50.4 percent (33,621) were women and 49.6 percent (33,094) were men, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained by the Maine Business Daily.

Males 18 and over outnumbered females in the same age group by a ratio of 23,442-to-23,123. In the 65 years and over age range, there were 5,308 females and 3,824 males.

Data for this story was compiled from the bureau's American Community Survey. Information from the survey helps to determine how federal and state funds are distributed.
