James P. Gorman, Executive Chairman of Morgan Stanley | Columbia Business School

Morgan Stanley Capital Partners has announced the acquisition of Resource Innovations, a leading tech-enabled services company focusing on energy efficiency and sustainability. The acquisition involved MSCP acquiring a controlling interest in the company from BV Investment Partners and other shareholders. Founder Lauren Casentini will continue to lead Resource Innovations as the Chief Executive Officer.

Resource Innovations, headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, provides advisory services, program management services, and software to utility, government, and corporate clients in the energy efficiency and decarbonization sectors. The company is known for its work with utilities in developing and implementing energy efficiency programs and emerging areas such as electric vehicle charging and distributed solar.

Eric Kanter, Managing Director and Head of Industrial Services at MSCP, commented on the acquisition, stating, “Resource Innovations’ tech-enabled services help turn energy policy goals into reality. Under industry veteran Lauren Casentini’s leadership, we believe this purpose-built team is poised for the next step in helping communities on their energy transition journey.”

In response to the acquisition, Lauren Casentini expressed excitement about the growth potential for Resource Innovations, saying, “MSCP’s investment is a recognition of the tremendous growth we have experienced over the past several years and validates the hard work our team does to deliver innovative, differentiated solutions for our customers.”

This acquisition marks MSCP’s third investment in industrials and outsourced services, following previous acquisitions of Apex in 2023 and Alliance Technical Group in 2021.

Legal counsel for the transaction included Jones Day for MSCP and Harris Williams as financial advisor. Global Counsel served as MSCP’s regulatory and policy advisor, while Latham & Watkins and Jefferies LLC represented Resource Innovations and BV Investment Partners.

Resource Innovations is described as accelerating the transition to clean energy by serving as a trusted partner to utilities and governments in energy efficiency and decarbonization planning. The company has been recognized for its rapid growth and commitment to addressing climate change and energy equity.
